Recently my mother told me about a product she used that was compared to Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation. The product was CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous. At under $11 I figured it was worth a shot. The foundation wasn't bad by any means but curious I visited a local Sephora to get a small sample of Kat Von D's Lock-It Foundation.
I am by all means a pale girl. My mother is even paler than me. Therefore it is hard to find affordable foundations in our skin tone. Both of these products come in pale shades. But is Lock-It worth $34 a bottle? Well here's comparative Pro's and Con's on each. I'll start with CoverGirl.
CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous-
PRO's:
*Suncreen! Summer is closing in and you want to protect your skin more than ever. SPF 15 is recommended yet this product does even better with SPF 20!
*Coverage. This product did a good job at covering redness and blemishes. I didn't use a concealer below it.
*Lightweight. This product didn't feel like it was clogging my pores.
*Not expensive.
CON's:
*Shade. I own shade 805. I personally find it a slight bit too dark for my skin but no one seemed to notice.
*Not-as-longlasting. The product did last really well but slowly I started getting shiny spots even though I wore a mattifying powder over it.
*Amount needed. It takes about 3-4 pumps to cover my face depending on coverage needed.
*Can look cakey... If you try for heaver coverage the product can look heavy.
*Small-ish bottle. Especially using 3-4 pumps to cover face.
*Claims to have primer built in. A primer is still needed with this product.
Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation-
PRO's:
*Shade! I sampled shade Light 42. It has a pink undertone. The shade actually was a bit lighter than I really am (I can probably use Light 44 with beige undertone or Light 46 with pink) but I didn't mind. I popped a little translucent powder over it and loved it.
*Amout needed. A small dab covered my entire face. The sample was VERY small amount (looked like only a couple pumps) but only a small amount was needed! Way less than CoverGirl Outlast.
*Coverage. That small little bit covered EVERYTHING! I have naturally rosy cheeks and therefore shy away from blush. The coverage from this product allowed me to wear blush for once. It also covered my flushing from my nerves during my speech for class that day.
*Didn't look cakey. The product had a nice smooth finish despite my dry skin.
*No synthetic fragrances. Great for sensitive skin.
*LONG LASTING! Wore it for over 12 hours. No oily-ness or wear away. I actually fell asleep in the product and still had great coverage the next morning.
CON's
*No SPF. This can easily be fixed with a lightweight moisturizer with SPF in it.
*Price. At $34 you get a decently large bottle and with 1 pump covering your face I'd say it's worth it.
In the end I definitely think Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation is a product that is worth splurging on. You will use less and receive better coverage. In the end you will probably buy enough bottles of Outlast Stay Fabulous to equal out the cost difference. This product is great for everyday use as well as for photos and it seems preforming. This is one of the few times I will probably ever suggest going to your local Sephora and dropping a lot of money on a make-up product. If you are a bit darker and cannot spend as much on a product at once CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous is a good alternative. It is a good drugstore foundation.
